UTSA to host UT Arlington in Southland Conference series

SAN ANTONIO ? The UTSA softball team will host UT Arlington in a three-game Southland Conference softball series this Sunday-Monday, March 15-16, at Roadrunner Field. First pitch in the Sunday doubleheader is scheduled for 1 p.m., followed by a single game at 1 p.m. the following afternoon. The series was pushed back one day due to heavy rains in the San Antonio area earlier this week.

The Roadrunners (10-11, 5-4 SLC) are looking to rebound from a sweep at the hands of McNeese State last weekend in Lake Charles, La. UTSA is 3-2 at Roadrunner Field this season and took two of three games from Sam Houston State in its last home series. Junior shortstop Kelly Cato leads UTSA with a .364 batting average, three home runs and 11 RBIs, while freshman outfielder Amber Anderson is hitting .357 with six doubles and 15 RBIs. Sophomores Danye Holmes (5-4, 1.99 ERA, 47 strikeouts) and Emily Humpal (4-5, 3.28 ERA, 35 strikeouts) lead the pitching staff. Fourth-year head coach Lori Cook needs just one victory to reach the 100-win plateau for her UTSA career.

The Mavericks enter the series with a 7-14 overall record and are 3-6 in league play. Heather Fortenberry leads the offense with a .321 batting average, while Cara Hulme is the top arm with a 4-8 record, 2.69 ERA and 60 strikeouts.

Live audio and stats for all three games will be provided online at goUTSA.com.
