VICTORIA ? Senior Allie Jordan is tied for second place and the UTSA women’s golf team is in third after 36 holes at the Claude Jacobs Intercollegiate held Monday at Victoria Country Club.
Jordan fired rounds of 74 and 76 and joins Lamar's Linda Persson in the runner-up position just one stroke behind day-one leader Cassie Huffer of Arkansas State. Her two-round total helped the Roadrunners to third place in the team standings with a scorecard of 308-319=627. Lamar leads the team standings after turning in a pair of 308s (616).
"Today's conditions were very tough," head coach Carrie Cole said. "It was extremely windy and the greens were very quick, which made for a challenging combination. We plan to come out with confidence tomorrow and improve on today's rounds."
Junior Shelly Martinez, who is coming off an individual title at the Islander Classic two weeks ago, is tied for 14th with a 76-80=156, while senior Laura Baker trails Martinez by one stroke (157) and is tied for 20th. Freshman Shannon Jungman and junior Madison McClain stand tied for 46th and 53rd, respectively, while freshman Bruna Spengler, who is playing as an individual, ended her day tied for 23rd.
UTSA returns to action on Tuesday morning with the final 18 holes.
