SAN ANTONIO ? The UTSA basketball teams are set to compete in the State Farm Southland Conference Tournament to be held this Wednesday-Sunday, March 11-15, at the Merrell Center in Katy.
The UTSA women clinched a share of the regular season championship with a convincing 65-51 win at Stephen F. Austin on Saturday night. The Roadrunners' 14-2 league ledger is identical to UT Arlington's, but the Mavericks earned the No. 1 seed due to their season sweep of UTSA. The Roadrunners, 21-8 overall and the defending SLC Tournament Champions, are the No. 2 seed and will face seventh seed McNeese State at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday with the winner advancing to the semifinal round at noon Friday.
The UTSA men, 17-12 overall, are advancing to the postseason tournament for the second consecutive season. The Roadrunners registered an 8-8 league mark, the most conference wins since the 2004-05 team won 10 games, and will be the No. 6 seed this week. UTSA will face third-seeded Sam Houston State at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 12, and the winner will move on to the semifinal round at 6 p.m. on Friday.
Friday’s men’s and women’s semifinal round games will be televised live by the Southland TV Network, which also will air the women’s championship game at 2 p.m. on Saturday. ESPN2 will carry the men’s championship contest, which is slated for noon on Sunday.
