FRISCO ? All-America and Southland Conference Player of the Year candidate Monica Gibbs was named SLC Player of the Week for the third week in row on Sunday night after leading the Roadrunners to share of the SLC Regular Season Championship.
Gibbs collected her league-leading fifth weekly award and it marks the fifth time in the last six weeks that a Roadrunner has garnered the honor.
The Stillwater, Okla., native set a school single-game record for both free throws made (17) and attempts (24) en route to a career-high with 29 points in Wednesday's 80-70 victory against I-35 rival Texas State. She also handed out nine assists and grabbed eight rebounds in that contest. Gibbs then tallied the 38th double-double of her career with 19 points and 10 rebounds in UTSA's 65-51 win at Stephen F. Austin last night that cliched the program's first conference regular season championship in six years and second in school history.
The second-seeded Roadrunners (21-8) begin defense of their 2008 SLC Tournament title when they face No. 7 McNeese State (14-15) at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday in Katy.
