Senior Nathalie Wallin pushed her singles winning streak to 11 matches on Saturday.

SAN ANTONIO ? The UTSA women’s tennis team didn’t let a windy day in The Alamo City stop it from picking up its fourth consecutive victory on Saturday. The Roadrunners defeated Central Arkansas, 7-0, to push their record in Southland Conference play to a perfect 3-0 and they improved to 8-4 overall with their seventh white-washing of the season.

Senior Nathalie Wallin and junior Holly Phillips shut out Jordan Short and Alex Rios, 8-0, at No. 3 doubles to open the match. The No. 2 senior-sophomore duo of Monika Drabkova and Caroline Dedering then defeated Petra Keilova and Allison Hartman, 8-1, to secure the point.

UTSA was even better in the six singles matches.

Phillips easily defated Rios in straight sets at the No. 4 slot and Drabkova followed suit against Mainz at the No. 3 position. Senior Karen Scida then recorded a 6-1, 6-0 triumph against Keilova at the top spot to clinch the match for the Roadrunners. Freshman Micaela Silva went on to post straight-sets win over Lindsay Short. Following another triumph, this time by Dedering (6-0, 6-2 vs. Rebecca McCullough), the only suspense remaining in the contest was if Wallin would extend her winning streak. The Stockholm, Sweden, native dealt Rebecca Miller a 6-0, 6-3 loss to push her streak to 11 consecutive matches.

“We are off to a great start, but it is still very early in the season,” head coach Erin Boisclair said after the win. “Each match is a new day and we have to look at it that way to keep the enthusiasm up and push through to keep getting wins.”

UTSA continues its six-match home stand on Sunday morning when it hosts Northwestern State at 10 a.m.
