Gibbs collects another Southland Conference weekly honor on Monday

Monica Gibbs picked up her league-best fourth SLC Player of the Week award on Monday.

FRISCO ? Senior guard Monica Gibbs picked up her second consecutive Southland Conference Player of the Week honor, the league office announced on Monday.

It was the SLC Player of the Year candidate's conference-leading fourth weekly award of the season and it marks the fourth time in the last five weeks that a Roadrunners has been honored, three of which have gone to Gibbs.

The Stillwater, Okla., native averaged 22 points, 9.5 rebounds and 7.5 assists in leading UTSA to a pair of wins against Northwestern State (Feb. 25) and at Lamar (Feb. 28) last week. She recorded a pair of double-doubles to push her career total to 34.

Gibbs matched her career-high with 24 points and hauled in 10 rebounds in the 74-69 win against the Lady Demons last Wednesday night. She then just missed her NCAA-record fourth triple-double of the year when she scored 20 points, dished out 10 assists and grabbed nine boards in Saturday's 77-45 win at Lamar.

It marks the second time in program history that a Roadrunner has captured back-to-back certificates, as Whitney York won consecutive awards on Nov. 13-20 a year ago.

UTSA, currently in a first-place tie in the conference standings with UT Arlington, returns to action on Wednesday night when it hosts I-35 rival Texas State in the SLC Game of the Week. The regionally-televised contest tips off at 7 p.m.
