KINDER, La. ? Junior Madison McClain finished tied for seventh place to lead the UTSA women's golf team to a tie for third place at the Kosasti Pines Collegiate Classic held Saturday and Sunday.
The Roadrunners shot a team total of 929 (306-311-312) to finish tied with Southland Conference rival Central Arkansas for the bronze. The tight team race saw the top four spots separated by a mere five strokes with Texas State claiming the team title with a 924 and host McNeese State taking runner-up honors with a 926.
McClain carded a 79 on Sunday after firing rounds of 74 and 75 on the first day to finish with a 54-hole total of 228.
Meanwhile, senior Laura Baker finished one stroke behind McClain with a 73-78-78?229 and tied for 10th place Junior Shelly Martinez shot a final round 79 (236) to complete her tournament in 25th place. Also in action were freshman Bruna Spengler and senior Allie Jordan, who finished tied for 32nd (239) and 36th (240) place, respectively.
UTSA returns to action at the Islanders Spring Classic on Feb. 23-24 in Corpus Christi.
