LAS CRUCES, N.M. ? UTSA stretched its winning streak to four matches with a 5-2 victory at New Mexico State on Saturday.
The Roadrunners (4-2) gained the first point of the day when they won two of the three doubles contests.
After senior Natalie Wallin and junior Holly Phillips defeated Paulina Zuniga and Bianca Discordia, 8-3, tat the No. 3 spot, the duo of senior Karen Scida and freshman Micaela Silva clinched the point when they defeated Sophia Marks and Aleksa Costa in a 9-8 tie-breaker at the No. 1 position.
UTSA continued to play well throughout the singles matches, winning four of the six tilts. Wallin defeated Isabela Kulaif (6-2, 6-0) at the No. 2 position and Silva was victorious against Costa (6-4, 6-3) at the No. 4 slot to push the Roadrunners' lead to 3-0. However, the Aggies (2-2) followed wins at the Nos. 1 and 5 slots to draw within one. Phillips followed with her second win of the day when she came off the court with a hard-fought 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 victory against Bianca Discordia at the No. 5 position and the win clinched the Roadrunners' fourth triumph in the last eight days.
UTSA will look for the weekend sweep on Sunday when it heads back to El Paso for a noon (CT) match at UTEP.
