HUNTSVILLE ? Sophomore Devin Gibson scored 17 points to lead three Roadrunners in double figures, but Corey Allmond drained four 3-pointers en route to a game-high 20 points to lead Sam Houston State to an 89-67 victory against UTSA on Saturday night at Johnson Coliseum.

The Roadrunners fell to 16-9 overall and 7-5 in Southland Conference play, while the Bearkats improved to 15-10 and remained in first place in the SLC West at 9-3.

Gibson made 11-of-12 at the free throw line and added five rebounds, a pair of assists and a steal, while senior Joey Shank scored 14 on the strength of four treys. Junior Chris Allen added 12 points and junior Leslie Jackson pulled down a team-high six boards.

Barkley Falkner posted 12 points and 16 rebounds, while Preston Brown (11), Drae Murray (11) and DeLuis Ramirez (10) joined Allmond and Falkner in double figures.

Shank had the hot hand early, making his first two and four total 3-pointers in the first half. However, Sam Houston used the long-distance shot to help build an eight-point lead midway through the half.

Shank made his second two treys to help spur a 7-2 run that pulled the Roadrunners to within 22-19 with 8:23 left in the half.

The Bearkats turned a slim 24-21 lead into a 41-26 halftime advantage, as they closed the first on a 17-5 run over the final seven minutes.

Sam Houston controlled the second half behind more hot shooting, making 17-of-30 (56.7%) from the floor, and led by as many as 25 late.

The Bearkats shot 54.7 percent for the game and made eight 3-pointers, while UTSA made just 36 percent from the field.

The Roadrunners travel to Natchitoches, La., to face Northwestern State at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 25.
