SAN ANTONIO ? The UTSA men’s golf team turned in a team scorecard of 304 in the first round, but rebounded with a 293 in the second round for a day one total of 597 and stands in 11th place at the 14th annual UTSA Oak Hills Invitational held at Oak Hills Country Club.
Senior Kyle Collins is tied for 13th place after shooting a 69-73?142, while freshman Payne Wilkie is six strokes behind Collins and sits tied for 37th place. Junior Ryan Kiel opened the day with an 80, but he recovered in the second round with a even-par 72 and is tied for 55th (152).
Also in action were junior Emiliano Martinez and freshman Lewis Chong, who finished their day tied for 65th (155) and 67th (156).
Texas Tech holds a comfortable 19-shot lead in the team standings after carding a 277-266?543, while Texas State is second at 279-283?562. Chris Ward of Texas Tech is the individual leader after firing a 65-66?131.
The final 18 holes begin Tuesday morning.
