Senior Andre Moreira battled Chrisopher Aumueller to a tough 6-3, 6-4 loss at No. 3 singles.

SAN ANTONIO ? No. 63-ranked Nebraska defeated UTSA, 7-0, on Sunday at the UTSA Tennis Center.

It took less than 45 minutes for the Cornhuskers (5-2) to take an early 1-0 lead by sweeping the doubles contests. Senior Andre Moreira and freshman Pedro Zanotelli lost their No. 1 doubles match, 8-2, to Calin Paar and David Bendheim. Francois Van Impe and Hendrik Stahmer took down the No. 3 pairing of sophomore Max Stratmann and junior Jorge Delgado, 8-2, sealing the doubles point for Nebraska.

Rounding out doubles play, junior Rodrigo Morgado and sophomore Daniel Moreiras dropped their No. 2 match, 8-3, to Christopher Aumueller and Benedikt Lindheim.

The Roadrunners (2-6) dropped all but one singles match in straight sets. Stratmann was the first off the court at No. 3, falling 6-0, 6-1 to Stahmer. At No. 6, Delgado battled in the first set, but then lost his steam in the second, losing 6-4, 6-0 at the hands of Lindheim.

Moreiras dropped his first set quickly, but hung around in the second before finally falling to Van Impe at No. 6. The Husker win secured the match for Nebraska with a 4-0 lead. It took a second-set tiebreak for Paar to knock off Zanotelli at No. 2, 6-2, 7-6 (7-5).

Moreira battled for every point but eventually lost his No. 3 match, 6-3, 6-4 to Aumueller. Morgado and Bendheim split their first two sets at No. 1 singles, the Runner taking the first, 6-4, and the Husker taking the second in a tiebreak, 7-6 (7-5).

With Nebraska already ahead 6-0 and the team match already secured, it was decided that the pair would play a 10-point tiebreak to decide the match.

The score went back and forth with Morgado taking a brief 6-5 lead before dropping the last five points and losing the tiebreak 10-6.

"It was a disappointing day for us," head coach Dr. Oliver Trittenwein said. "I was hoping we would be a little more competitive like we were on Friday against Marquette, but it just wasn't there today.

"I don't think it was a matter of being over-matched today," Trittenwein said. "I don't think we played with enough heart. That's what my talk with the guys was about after the match. I thought we didn't play with pride today."

UTSA will be in Austin on Friday, Feb. 20, to play the No. 2-ranked Texas Longhorns at 2 p.m. The Roadrunners will be back home on Sunday to play their first conference match of the season when they host Nicholls at 10 a.m. at the UTSA Tennis Center.
