Sophomore Danye Holmes tossed a complete-game four-hitter in the 1-0 loss to Mississippi on Friday.

WACO ? Sophomore Danye Holmes tossed a complete-game four-hitter, but Mississippi’s one run was enough in a 1-0 victory over UTSA on Friday in the second Getterman Classic game of the day for the Roadrunners at Little League Field. Freshman Kristin Wehmeyer went 2-for-2 with an RBI to lead UTSA (2-5) in game one, a 10-1 loss to New Mexico.

Holmes (0-2) struck out a pair and allowed just one run on four hits and two walks in the nail-biting loss to Ole Miss (3-2).

UTSA threatened in the top of the first with a pair of base runners. Freshman Caitlyn Ivy singled to left field with one out and moved to second on a two-out single to right by Holmes. Ole Miss starter Becky Nye got out of the jam with a strikeout.

The Rebels managed just one base runner in the first two innings, but broke through for the game’s only run in the bottom of the third. Alise Doubt led off the frame with an infield single and scored on Courtnie Ghinaudo’s RBI-double down the left field line.

Nye (3-1) allowed just four hits and a walk and fanned  five batters in the complete-game shutout.

Holmes, Ivy, freshman Amber Anderson and junior Rudi Cantu collected a hit apiece for the Roadrunners.

Wehmeyer led the UTSA offense in the opening game against New Mexico with a pair of singles and the lone RBI.

It was the Lobos (2-2) who struck first, plating five runs in the top of the first as part of a 10-run, 12-hit performance. Samantha Hughes, who went 3-for-3, led off the game with a solo home run to center field. Analise Rubalcava had a bases-loaded, two-run single and Jess Lujan-Dresler had a run-scoring base hit to help New Mexico get off to the big start.

The Lobos pushed across another run in the top of the fourth, as Jessica Garcia reached on an error and later scored on another Roadrunner miscue to make it 6-0.

UTSA scratched for a run in the bottom of the frame. Sophomore Kristin Kappler drew a one-out walk and freshman pinch runner Elyse Seals moved to second on a single to right by senior Leanne Risberg. Wehmeyer then drilled a base hit to center to plate Seals with the lone run of the day.

New Mexico tallied four more runs in the top of the fifth to put the eight-run rule into effect.

Holmes, Anderson and freshman Ashley Kappler also had hits for UTSA off of Rubalcava (1-1), who scattered six hits and one walk, but did not register a strikeout in the win.

UTSA will face Stephen F. Austin at 12:30 p.m. and host Baylor at 3 p.m. on Saturday at Getterman Stadium.
