Baker earns exemption for the LPGA Duramed Futures Tour

SAN ANTONIO ? UTSA senior Laura Baker won her first career qualifying tournament card for the LPGA Duramed Futures Tour by winning the Texas Hill Country Classic Qualifier on Monday at the Dominion Country Club.

“I am thrilled for Laura to have earned this opportunity,” head coach Carrie Cole said. “She worked hard on her game this off season and has started the spring very strong.  This exemption will allow her to meet and interact with a lot of new people and give her the feeling of playing in a professional tournament. She will be a wonderful representative of UTSA at the event and I hope a lot of people come out to watch."

Baker shot a two-over-par 74 in the one day event and edged out fellow teammate junior Madison McClain by one stroke. The Victoria native won the exemption into the Duramed Futures Tour (a professional golf tour). Meanwhile, McClain will serve as the first alternate to the event.

She will compete at the Texas Hill Country Classic on May 1-3. The three-day event will be played at the Dominion Country Club in San Antonio.
