Roadrunners men to tee off 2009 season on Monday

SAN ANTONIO ? UTSA’s men's golf team heads to the Bayou State on Monday for its 2009 spring opener. The Roadrunners will compete at the UNO Mardi Gras Classic, which will be played the prestigious TPC Louisiana Golf Course (par 72/7,300 yards). First- and second-round action is scheduled for Monday with the final 18 slated to be played the following day.

“I’m excited about this event because we are playing at the TPC Louisiana Golf Course where they hold PGA events,” first-year head coach John Knauer said. “The golf course is in great shape and I can’t wait to see our guys play this course. They have been practicing well and the addition of Ryan Kiel has been good to our team. We are looking forward to this tournament as a tune up for next week's UTSA Oak Hills Classic.”

The Roadrunners enjoyed a solid fall season with two top-10 showings, including a season-best fifth-place finish at the Del Walker Intercollegiate. Senior Kyle Collins was the top finisher in four of the five tournaments for UTSA and the San Antonio native led the team with a 74.80 stroke average.
