SAN ANTONIO ?The UTSA women’s tennis team picked up from where it left off on Saturday with another 7-0 victory, this time on Sunday against St. Edwards.
The Roadunners (2-2) won all three matches to collect the doubles point to start the perfect run of success.
It was a 1-2-3 finish for UTSA doubles, as senior Karen Scida and freshman Micaela Silva won 8-4 over Regina Del Bosque and Audrey Tompkins at the No. 1 spot. The senior-sophomore duo Monika Drabkova and Caroline Dedering then triumphed over Mary Bain and Elizabeth Jacobi (8-4), which secured the doubles point for UTSA. Freshman Katie Ottenbreit and senior Nathalie Wallin finished strong, winning 8-6 against Anne Ruscue and Heather Brien.
The Roadrunners finished the afternoon by winning all six singles matches in straight sets.
Silva prevailed over Jacobi (6-1, 6-0) in the first singles win at the No. 4 position. Two more wins followed, as Drabkova was victorious over Bain (6-2, 6-1) and Bosque fell at the hands of Scida (6-2, 6-1). The next Hilltopper to suffer a loss was Brien, who lost in back-to-back 6-1 sets to Dedering.. Wallin then won at the No. 2 spot (6-2, 6-4) over Tompkins. Ottenbreit also was successful in her contest with Victoria DeLeon (6-4, 6-3).
“We worked hard in practice last week and our goal was to win every match this weekend,” head coach Erin Boisclair said. “I am pleased with this weekend’s results. It was a great confidence booster because we face three tough teams next weekend.”
UTSA is back in action on Friday, Feb. 6, when it faces Western New Mexico in a 1 p.m. contest in El Paso.
