FRISCO ? Senior guard Monica Gibbs was named the Southland Conference women’s basketball player of the week, the league office announced Monday.
Gibbs picked up her second weekly award of the season and team’s third after leading the Roadrunners to consecutive conference wins last week.
The Stillwater, Okla., native averaged a double-double with 13.5 points and 11.0 rebounds per game to go along with 5.5 assists. Her pair of double-doubles pushed her career total to 32. Despite going just 6-for-20 (30 percent) from floor, Gibbs made it up at the free throw line, shooting 71.4 percent (15-for-21). She netted 15 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in Wednesday's come-from-behind win at Texas State. Gibbs followed that performance with 12 points and a dozen boards in the last-minute victory on Saturday against Lamar.
Gibbs joins UT Arlington forward Candice Champion as the league’s onlyplayers to capture at least two player of the week awards this season.
UTSA (12-7, 5-1 SLC) is back in action on Wednesday night at Sam Houston State.
