SAN ANTONIO ? The UTSA womenʼs tennis team picked up its first win of the season with a 7-0 victory against Laredo Community College on Saturday.
The Roadrunners rattled the UTSA Tennis Center early by collecting the doubles point with three wins.
Senior Nathalie Wallin and freshman Katie Ottenbreit opened up the morning with an 8-0 win over Vivi Brizules and Megan Guerra at the No. 3 position. Senior Monika Drabkova and sophomore Caroline Dedering then collected an 8-5 victory against Flavia Picanco and Kim Evans at the No. 2 slot. Senior Karen Scida and freshman Micaela Silva completed the sweep with an 8-6 triumph over Loriane Faveretto and Kayla Garcia at the top spot.
UTSA then won all six singles matches in straight sets to complete the whitewashing. Drabkova blanked Evans and Dedering did the same against Brizules to put the Roadrunners up, 3-0. Silva then clinched the victory with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Garcia. Scida, Wallin and Ottenbreit also were victorious.
UTSA returns to play on Sunday afternoon against St. Edward's.
