SAN MARCOS ? Despite shooting less than 30 percent from the floor and down as many as 17 points in the second half, UTSA rallied for a 56-52 victory at Texas State on Wednesday night at Strahan Coliesum.
Senior guard Monica Gibbs recorded her 31st career double-double with a game-high 15 points and team-best 10 rebounds. Meanwhile, sophomore guard Amber Gregg added 14 on the strength of four 3-pointers. Sophomore guard Jordan Stark chipped in with 13 points, all of which came in the second half.
The Roadrunners (11-7, 4-1 SLC) connected on just 16-of-57 (28.1 percent) shots from the floor, but they made up for it at the charity stripe, going 17-for-22, including 16-of-21 in the second half.
The Bobcats saw their record drop to 8-10 overall and 2-4 in conference play.
Victoria Davis posted a double-double with 14 points and a game-high 13 rebounds.
Texas State opened the final frame with an 8-2 run that extended its lead to 40-23 with 16:31 to go in the second half. UTSA cut the lead to 11 when Gibbs was good on a free throw with 12:11 left. After the Bobcats extended the advantage to 15, the Roadrunners began to chip away, using a 10-0 run over the next three minutes. Gibbs gave UTSA its first lead of game with her put-back layup with 32 seconds to go, capping a 13-2 run. Stark then went 4-for-4 from the foul line to complete the miraculous comeback.
Texas State held a 32-21 halftime lead.
The Roadrunners return home to host Lamar at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
