Junior Rodrigo Morgado was victorious in both singles and doubles on Saturday.

EUGENE, Ore. ? The UTSA men’s tennis team lost its first of two weekend matches on Saturday, falling 5-2 to Oregon at the Oregon Tennis Center.

The Roadrunners started the day by scoring the doubles point to take an early 1-0 lead, but they then dropped five of the six singles matches.

Leading the way for UTSA was junior Rodrigo Morgado, who teamed up with sophomore Daniel Morieras to take their No. 2 doubles match, 8-6. After sophomore Max Stratmann and junior Jorge Delgado fell, 8-4, senior Andre Moreira and freshman Pedro Zanotelli paired up for an 8-6 win at the No. 1 slot, which clinched the point for the Birds.

Morgado then went on to to score the Roadrunners' lone singles victory at the No. 1 position, a 6-4, 6-3 triumph against Marcos Verdasco.

“We started behind in doubles early on, but then we got the lead in theone and two doubles and held on to win those matches,” head coach Dr.Oliver Trittenwein said after the match. “Morgado won again at No. 1 singles. His game isat a high level to start the season and that’s important because he issetting the tone for the team.”

The Ducks posted wins in the other five singles matches to clinch the three-point win. Alexander Cornelissen breezed by Moreira, 6-1, 6-3, at the No. 2 spot. Duncan MacDonald-Korth captured a 6-0, 6-4 victory over Stratmann and Aryton Wibowo defeated Zanotelli at the No. 3 position, 6-4, 6-2. Oregon clinched the match with a win at the No. 6 spot, where Mike Myrhed defeated Moreiras 6-3, 7-5.

“We played really hard and didn’t give up,” Trittenwein said. “We had a chance in a few of those singles matches, but they just played a little smarter and better than we did today.”

UTSA completes its weekend road trip when they visit Portland at noon on Sunday.
