Lindsey Nguyen broke UTSA's pole vault record for the second week in a row.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. ?Freshman Lindsey Nguyen improved her own school record in the indoor pole vault to highlight action for the UTSA women’s track and field team at the Cherry & Silver Invitational held Saturday at the Albuquerque Convention Center.

Nguyen cleared 10 feet, 10 inches to finish in a three-way tie for fourth place in the event won by BYU’s Ashley Sheppard (11-9). The Dallas native bettered her own school record of 10-4 set last week at the Leonard Hilton Memorial in Houston. UTSA's all-time pole vault record is an 11-0 1/4 clearance outdoors by Stephanie Henslee in 2000.

Junior Dana Mecke clocked a personal-best 2:14.67 to finish third in the 800 meters, bettering UTSA’s No. 4 all-time performer in the event’s previous PR of 2:15.84 posted at the adidas Classic last season.

Junior Jessica Jones peeled off a season-best 8.68 to place fourth among collegiate competitors and fifth overall in the 60m hurdles. The Fort Bend Hightower High product made it to the final with an 8.70 effort in the prelims.

Jones joined Mecke, sophomore Shavonne Armbrister and freshman Rebecca Crain for a top-five showing in the final track event, the 4x400m relay. The quartet passed the baton to a fourth-place time of 3:55.02 to finish just ahead of Houston in their section in the race won by BYU (3:43.33).

In other action, senior Ashley Jackson turned in a personal best in the 200m, crossing the line in 24.91 to easily win her section and finish ninth overall. Freshman Kayla Pratt finished third among collegians and fifth overall in the mile with a 5:18.83 clocking.

The Roadrunners return to action next Saturday, Jan. 31, at the Houston Invitational/Multis.
