FRISCO ? Senior Will Vese was tabbed Southland Conference Men's Athlete of the Week, the league office announced on Wednesday.
Vese made yet another triumphant return to his hometown ofHouston on Friday, as he won the 60-meter hurdles at the season-openingLeonard Hilton Memorial at Bill Yeoman Fieldhouse. Thetwo-time defending Southland Conference Champion crossed the tape inan NCAA provisional time of 7.90, besting Louisiana Tech's Bill Walkerby nine one-hundredths of a second. A team co-captain, he advancedto the evening final after recording the second-fastest preliminarytime with his 8.03 clocking, which was just three ticks behind Walker.
It marks the second year in a row that a Roadrunner captured the circuit's top weekly award following the opening weekend of the season. Teddy Williams was honored following his SLC-record 6.66 in the 60 meters at the Houston Opener a year ago.
UTSA is back in action on Saturday when it travels to Albuquerque, N.M., for the Cherry & Silver Invitational.
