HOUSTON ?The UTSA men’s tennis team dropped its first match of the season, 7-0, at Rice in non-conference action on Friday night.
The Owls (1-1) swept the Roadrunners (1-1) en route to collecting the doubles point.
In singles action, Rice was victorious in all six matches. Christoph Muller gave the Owls a 2-0 advantage with a 6-0, 6-1 win against senior Andre Moreira at the No. 2 slot. Tobias Scheil collected a straight-sets triumph against junior Jorge Delgado. Sam Garforth-Bles clinched the match for Rice when he defeated sophomore Daniel Moreiras 6-1, 6-3 at the No. 5 position.
UTSA hits the road for a pair of matches next weekend. The Roadrunners play at Oregon on Saturday, Jan. 24, and Portland the following day.
