MANHATTAN, Kan. ? The UTSA women’s basketball team dropped its third game in a row in an 80-51 loss at Kansas State on Sunday afternoon at Bramlage Coliseum.

Senior guard Monica Gibbs led the Roadrunners (1-3) with a game-high 19 points, while senior forward Onika Anderson posted a double-double of 10 points and a team-best 10 rebounds. Sophomore guard Amber Gregg netted nine points, going 3-for-4 from downtown.

Kari Kincaid led four Wildcats (3-0) in double figures with a team-high 17 points, while Marlies Gipson chipped in with 16. Jalana Childs and Shalee Lehning collected 13 and 12 points, respectively, and Lehning also dished out 13 assists to along with eight rebounds.

The Wildcats netted the first six points of the second half to push their lead to 19 within the first three minutes  Back-to-back three balls from Gregg sparked an 11-2 run by UTSA that cut K-State’s deficit to 11 with 11:25 remaining, but that would be the closet the Roadrunners would get for the rest of the way. The Wildcats pulled away over the next five minutes, using a 16-2 spurt to push the score to 66-41. Gregg’s third 3-pointer of the day pulled UTSA within 18, but Kansas State was too much down the stretch.

UTSA jumped out to a 9-2 lead on a jumper by Gibbs with 15:14 to go in the first half, but the Wildcats responded with 9-2 run to tie the game at 11 with 11:40 to play. A basket by Lehning gave K-State its first lead at 14-12, but Gibbs’ 3-pointer from the top of the key gave the Roadrunners a one-point advantage. However, the Wildcats closed out the stanza on a 21-6 run for a 35-21 halftime advantage.

UTSA returns to San Antonio for a three-game home stand that begins with the Star Shuttle UTSA Thanksgiving Classic on Nov. 28-29.
