SAN MARCOS ? Texas State hit .290 on offense and recorded eight team blocks on defense en route to an easy 25-15, 25-16, 25-17 victory against UTSA on Thursday night. The Bobcats (20-13, 13-2 SLC) clinched a tie for the 2008 Southland Conference Regular Season Championship in front of 1,103 fans at Strahan Coliseum.
Texas State used a 16-5 run to end the first set to go up 1-0 and then reeled off 17 of the final 23 points one frame later to take a commanding 2-0 lead into intermission. The Bobcats were just as sharp coming out of the locker room and they lead from start to finish in the third stanza to clinch the victory.
Sophomore outside hitter Kendra Rowland led UTSA (18-11, 10-5 SLC) with a match-high 14 kills and sophomore middle hitter Briana Mason added nine. Freshman libero Kelsey Jewasko collected a team-leading 12 digs and Rowland had 10.
Lawrencia Brown led a balanced Texas State offensive attack with nine winners, while Jessica Weynand recorded a match-best 15 digs.
The Roadrunners conclude the regular season on Saturday with a 4 p.m. contest at UT Arlington.
