SAN ANTONIO ? UTSA women’s golf coach Carrie Cole announced Wednesday the signing of her first recruit, Paola Valerio, to a National Letter of Intent. Valerio will join the Roadrunners beginning with the 2009-10 season.
"I am extremely excited to have Paola join the team next fall,” Cole said. “She has a wealth of experience on the international level and is a current member of the Mexican Junior National Team. I was looking for a very special individual to come in next fall and make an immediate impact on the team and I feel that Paola fits this bill perfectly. She has excellent technical skills and a terrific temperament. Most importantly, she appears to have the competitive spirit, desire and work ethic necessary to help drive our young program forward. She is not only a great player but a great person and I know she will represent UTSA well."
The Mexico City native currently is ranked No. 1 by the Mexico Golf Federation. As a member of the Mexican National Junior Team, Valerio has competed in the Junior World Championship the last three seasons (2006-08) and her best outing was 23rd place with scores of 77-75-76-79?307. She placed third at the 2008 AJGA Maykoba Junior Golf Classic. She also had a ninth place showing (79-75-78?232) at the Doral Publix Junior in 2007.
