Roadrunners shut out Sugar Bears, 4-0, on Senior Night

Junior Veronica Najera scored a pair of goals on Friday night.

SAN ANTONIO ? Junior Veronica Najera netted a pair ofgoals to lead the UTSA soccer team past Central Arkansas, 4-0, inSouthland Conference action on Friday night at the UTSA Rec SportsComplex.

Najera gave the Roadrunners (8-9-1, 5-2-1 SLC) a 1-0lead with her fifth goal of the season at the 30-minute mark of thefirst half. The Waxahachie native received passes from junior HaleeHamm and sophomore Allison Dillon and was able to beat thegoalie to knock in her first winner of the night. She then pushedUTSA’s lead to 2-0 with her second goal of the match within the firstminute of the second frame.

Hamm increased the Roadrunners lead to three in the 60thminute and junior Kim Selman was credited with the assist.Freshman Jackie Nance wrapped up the night's scoring with her firstcollegiate goal with less than 10 minutes to play in the match.

Sophomore Laurel Dierking, freshman Taylor Padia andNajera lead the Roadrunners with four shots, as UTSA held a 30-6advantage in the victory. Freshman Nicoline Joergensen collected two saves on thenight to help the Runners collect their seventh shutout of the season.

Heather Joyer collected a match-high nine saves forthe Suagr Bears (3-11-1, 1-6-1 SLC).

UTSA concludes its regular season on Sunday against Northwestern State. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m.
