Women?s tennis closes out fall season on high note

SAN MARCOS ? The UTSA women’s tennis team closed out its fall season on high note by winning 15 of 16 dual matches against Texas State and UTPA at the Bobcats Tennis Center on last Saturday.

The Roadrunners began the day winning all three doubles matches. Senior Karen Scida and freshman Micaela Silva got things started with an 8-2 win against Texas State’s Lainy Chafitz and Katie O’Riley. Also picking up victories in doubles play were the duo of senior Monika Drabkova and sophomore Caroline Dedering and the tandem of senior Nathalie Wallin and junior Holly Phillips.

Meanwhile, UTSA posted a dozen wins in 13 singles matches. Wallin won both her singles matches in straight sets, while Phillips also was a winner in both her matches, defeating Luisa Cantu and Reetta Raty from UTPA in straight sets. Drabkova also recorded a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Texas State’s Saskia Kruse and then handed Sarah Burton a 6-2, 6-0 defeat. Dedering, freshman Kaite Ottenbreit and Silva also picked up triumphs.
