UTSA to wrap up exhibition play on Saturday night

SAN ANTONIO ? The UTSA women’s basketball team closes out exhibition play on Saturday with a 7 p.m. home contest against St. Edward’s.

The Roadrunners are coming of an 81-64 win against the Dallas Diesel on Nov. 2. Senior guard Monica Gibbs poured in a game-high 34 points, connecting on 11 field goals and 12-of-18 free throws. The preseason first-team All-Southland Conference selection also handed out a game-best five assists. Sophomore guard Amber Gregg chipped in with 14 points, while senior forward Onika Anderson added 11 and eight rebounds. Junior forward Valencia Cottom hauled in a team-high nine boards in her UTSA debut.

UTSA posted one of its best seasons in school history a year ago, winning its first-ever SLC Tournament Championship, inaugural trip to the NCAA Tournament and school-record 23 wins. Head coach Rae Rippetoe-Blair welcomes back seven letterwinners and seven newcomers to this year’s team.
