? The No. 3 seed UTSA will face sixth-seeded Northwestern State in first round action of the 2008 Southland Conference Women’s Soccer Tournament on Thursday at the Ward 3 Recreation Complex in Lake Charles, La. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.

Series Meeting: The Roadrunners lead, 2-0-1, in the all-time series against the Lady Demons. This will be the first that both team face off in postseason play.

Runners at the Tourney:
UTSA is making its third straight appearance and has posted a 1-2 all-time mark in tournament play. The Roadrunners defeated Sam Houston State, 1-0, for their first post season win in last season’s SLC Tournament.

Scouting Northwestern State: The Lady Demons enter the tournament on a two-match losing streak. Northwestern State suffered a pair of 1-0 defeats by Texas State last Friday and UTSA two days later. NW State closed out its regular season with a 9-8-2 overall mark and a 4-4-1 conference record, which was good enough for the final spot for the SLC Soccer Tournament.

Last outing: UTSA wrapped up regular season play in a three-way tie for second place in the Southland Conference standings after collecting a 1-0 win against Northwestern State at the UTSA Rec Sports Complex on Sunday afternoon. The Roadrunners grabbed the early lead when sophomore Allison Dillon scored her team-leading seventh goal of the season within the first three minutes of the first half. Junior Kim Gonzales passed the ball to Dillon and she dribbled around the goalie to send it into the net. The Lady Demons had several chances to tie the match, but freshman goalkeeper Nicoline Joergensen came up huge for the Roadrunners with five saves during the frame to seal the victory.

Runners land four on All-SLC teams: Junior defender Ezinne Okpo earned second-team All-Southland Conference honors, while junior defender Celeste Carruth, sophomore forward Allison Dillon and freshman goalkeeper Nicoline Joergensen collected honorable mention accolades.

She’s a keeper: UTSA freshman Nicoline Joergensen made her debut on Sept. 5, at Texas. Since entering the starting lineup, the Odense, Denmark, native has collected a team-high 78 saves and three shutouts.
 
On a defensive pace: UTSA tied the school-record of seven shutouts in a season after blanking Central Arkansas on Oct. 31 and Northwestern State on Nov. 2.

Runners set mark against Texas Southern: UTSA posted a school-record 32 shots in the 7-0 win over Texas Southern on Aug. 29. The Roadrunners also tied a school mark with seven goals.
