Sophomore Allie Dillon scored her third goal of the season in the 2-0 win at Lamar.

BEAUMONT ?  Sophomore forward Allie Dillon and junior forward Jenny Munoz scored a goal apiece to lead the UTSA women’s soccer team past Lamar, 2-0, in both teams' Southland Conference opener on Friday night.

"This was a great way to start conference play with a road win," head coach Steve Ballard said. "Lamar is a much-improved team this year. Our girls played excellent and also finished when they had their chances."

Dillon put the Roadrunners (4-7, 1-0 SLC) on the board first with her third goal of the season at the 25-minute mark of the first half. The Birds also held a 13-4 shot advantage over the Cardinals (2-6, 0-1) in the first frame.

In second half action, Munoz pushed UTSA’s lead to 2-0 when she received a pass from junior midfielder Kari Weiland with less than two minutes to play.

Dillon paced UTSA’s offense with a match-high six shots, including the goal. Junior Veronica Najera posted five shots and Weiland recorded an assist for the Roadrunners. Meanwhile, freshman goalkeeper Nicoline Joergensen collected her first career shutout of the season, recording five saves on the night.

Aline Pugliesi had a team-high three shots to lead Lamar, while goalie Jennifer Gibbs allowed two goals and had nine saves on the night.

UTSA heads to Lake Charles, La., for a league match at McNeese State on Sunday, Oct. 5. The match is slated for 1 p.m.
