SAN ANTONIO ? Carli Kolbe led a balanced Sam Houston State offensive attack with a match-high 13 kills and the Bearkats defeated UTSA for the second time in three weeks on Thursday night at the Convocation Center (25-18, 25-18, 25-23).

Anna Ferguson added 10 winners to go along with a match-best six blocks and Sam Houston hit .233 as a team, while limiting the Roadrunners (15-9, 7-3 SLC) to a .118 hitting percentage on the strength of nine total blocks.

After UTSA scored the first point of the match, the Bearkats (10-16, 5-5 SLC) went on a 10-3 run and led the rest of the way. It was all Sam Houston State in the next set, as it jumped out to an 8-0 led and took a commanding 2-0 lead into the intermission.

The third and final frame was more competitive ? it featured 14 ties and seven lead changes ? but Sam Houston scored the final two points of the contest after the Roadrunners tied the score at 23.

Sophomore Kendra Rowland led UTSA with 16 digs and eight kills and freshman Kelsey Jewasko added 15 digs, her ninth match in a row in double figures.

The win was the fourth in the last five meetings for the Bearkats in the all-time series between the two schools.

The Birds are back in action on Saturday afternoon when it hosts Lamar (10-8, 8-1 SLC) in a 2 p.m. contest at the Convo.
