UTSA to begin five-match home stand this weekend

SAN ANTONIO ? UTSA will have revenge on its mind this weekend when it begins a five-match home stand at the Convocation Center. Sam Houston State comes to town for a 7 p.m. contest on Thursday before the Roadrunners host Lamar at 2 p.m. two days later. Both matches can be seen live on goUTSA.com (Rowdy Zone subscription required), but fans also can listen to the contests a free of charge here.

The Bearkats and Lady Cardinals defeated UTSA, winners of 14 of its last 16 matches, in back-to-back tilts on the weekend of Oct. 10-11, the only setbacks the Roadrunners have been dealt since Sept. 6. The Roadrunners come into Thursday's match with a 15-8 overall record and 7-2 mark in Southland Conference play and currently stand in third place in the West Division standings.

Sam Houston State (9-16, 4-5 SLC) has dropped three of its last contests four since rallying from a 2-0 deficit against the Birds on Oct. 11. The Bearkats, currently in the midst of a four-match road trip, have won three of the past four meetings with the Roadrunners and have a 24-20 lead in the all-time series that dates back to the 1985 season.

UTSA will join hundreds of programs across the nation taking part in the Dig for a Cure that night. Fans are encouraged to show up in pink clothing to show their support of ending the fight against breast cancer and raise awareness. All fans in pink will receive $1 off their ticket price and the team will be wearing pink uniforms provided by Asics. The first 200 fans to arrive will receive a free pink T-shirt  and other shirts will be available to with all the proceeds raised benefiting the Susan G. Komen for the Cure San Antonio. There also will be a donation station with pledges per dig being taken along with flat donations. Prior to the match, UTSA will honor breast cancer survivors from the San Antonio community.

Lamar (10-8, 8-1 SLC) comes into its Friday contest at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi winners of six in a row, a streak that began with its sweep of the Roadrunners on Oct. 10. The Lady Cardinals, who have won six of their last eight matches overall, are in a first-place tie with Texas State in the West and they are coming off a come-from-behind victory at Stephen F. Austin last Saturday. Lamar has won the last two matchups with UTSA and now holds a 23-17 edge in the all-time series that dates back 1985.
