SAN ANTONIO ? The UTSA soccer team and Texas State battled to a 1-1 tie in Southland Conference action at the UTSA Rec Sports Complex on Sunday afternoon.

The Roadrunners (7-9-1, 4-2-1 SLC) took an early 1-0 lead over the Bobcats (9-3-4, 5-0-2 SLC) when junior Veronica Najera snuck her fourth goal of the season past the Texas State goalkeeper Mandi Mawyer in the 13th minute. Sophomore Allison Dillon was credited with the assist on the play.

Texas State evened things up when Britney Curry’s shot went over the outstretched hand of freshman goalkeeper Nicoline Joergensen in the 67th minute.

The two teams both had chances to score over the next 40-plus minutes, but solid defensive play on both halves of the field kept the score deadlocked.

In the first overtime, the Bobcats had two chances to win the match, but Joergensen came up huge for the Roadrunners with a pair of saves.

In the second OT, Dillon nearly gave the Birds the win with less than two minutes to play, but Mawyer collected her 10th save of the afternoon.

Joergensen matched Mawyer with 10 saves on the day, while Dillon totaled a team-best five shots and collected one assist. Najera posted her one goal on four shot attempts.

Curry recorded a match-high seven shots to lead the Texas State offense.

UTSA stays home to host a pair of SLC matches next weekend against Central Arkansas on Oct. 31 and versus Northwestern State two days later.
