Collins stands tied for third after first day of Del Walker Intercollegiate


Senior Kyle Collins fired a career-low 67 in the first round.

LONG BEACH, Calif. ? Senior Kyle Collins is tied for third place after scoring a 67-68?135 to lead the Roadrunners, who are tied for second place after shooting a pair of 278’s (556) at the Del Walker Intercollegiate at the Virginia Country Club (par 70/6,633 yards).

“We had a great day today," head coach John Knauer said. "Our guys got off to a hot start in the early holes, but then cooled off in the later holes. However, we put together a solid performance in the second round to get us back on track. Kyle had a great day with two really good rounds. Overall, it was solid first day and I can’t wait to see what happens tomorrow.”

The San Antonio native shot a career-low 67 in the first round and then turned in a 68 to end the day seven-under-par. Junior Phillip Hui stands tied for ninth after firing rounds of 70-68?168 and is four-under-par after the first day of action.

Meanwhile, junior Emiliano Martinez shot a two-round total of 142 and is tied for 25th place and freshman Lewis Chong is tied for 48th.

The final round will be played on Friday morning.
