UTSA blanks Nicholls on Friday night

 Sophomore Allison Dillon had two goals and an assist on Friday night.

SAN ANTONIO ? Sophomore Alli Dillon scored two goals and added an assist to pace UTSA to a 5-0 win against Nicholls on Friday night at the UTSA Rec Sports Complex.

The Roadrunners (5-8, 2-1 SLC) took the early lead when junior Kari Weiland scored her second goal of the season. Weiland’s winner came off a corner kick that went through the hands of the Colonels (2-10, 0-3 SLC) goalkeeper at the eight-minute mark of the first half. Junior Halee Hamm then gave UTSA a 2-0 advantage a minute later. Dillon pushed the lead 4-0 with back-to-back winners.

In second half action, junior Veronica Najera made the score 5-0 at the 64-minute mark. Freshman Erin Mackay passed the ball to Najera and she was able to dribble past the defenders and float the ball over the diving goalie from Nicholls.

Dillon tallied a match-high two goals on the night. Meanwhile, Najera posted a match-best six shots and sophomore Laurel Dierking collected four shots. Four different Roadrunners collected an assist in the victory.

UTSA returns to action on Sunday with a 1 p.m. match against Southeastern Louisiana.
