SAN ANTONIO ? Junior Rodrigo Morgado and freshman Pedro Zanotelli collected a pair of wins to advance to the semis of the Doubles Blue Draw of the UTSA Invitational.
Morgado and Zantotelli started off the day with an 8-1 win over Boecker and Mundell from Tyler Junior College. The duo then recorded an 8-2 victory against James Langford and Jaume Farras from Texas A&M-Corpus Christi to move on to the semifinals.
In singles action, Morgado posted a pair of straight set wins to advance to the Singles Blue Draw semifinals.
Senior Robin Fernandes was also in action the Blue Draw. The Edenvale, South Africa, native made quick work of Jon Devose from TJC in the first round, but then fell in a tough three set match (6-3, 4-6, 6-4) against Farras from TAMU-CC.
Zanotelli reached the second round of the Blue Draw, after dealing St. Edward’s Luis Rovira a 7-6, 6-2 loss in their first round match. However, he dropped out of his second round match due to injury.
In the Singles Orange Draw, freshman Jorge Delgado moved on the semifinals with a pair of straight sets wins over Boris Barrios from St. Edward’s and Sebastien Leitz from TJC.
Freshman Spencer Tiller posted a 6-3, 6-2, victory against J.J. Haley from TJC, before bowing out in the second round tagainst Marcus Dornauf from UTPA in straight sets. Also in action was sophomore Max Startmann, who reached the semifinals of the Orange Draw Consolation.
UTSA concludes tennis action tomorrow at the UTSA Tennis Center.
