Women?s golf heads to Jeannie McHaney/Audrey Morehead Intercollegiate

SAN ANTONIO ? The UTSA women’s golf team travels to Lubbock for the Jeannie McHaney/Audrey Morehead Intercollegiate beginning Monday, Oct. 6, and ending on Tuesday, Oct. 7, at the Rawls Course (par 72/6,625 yards).

The intercollegiate features seven teams from the Big 12 Conference (Baylor, Colorado, Kansas, Kansas State, Missouri, Nebraska and host Texas Tech), while North Texas, Redlands Community College, Sam Houston State, Arkansas-Little Rock and UTSA also comprise the field.

“We are looking forward to traveling to Lubbock for the Jeannie McHaney/Audrey Morehead Invitational,” head coach Carrie Cole said. “The Rawls Course will be a challenging course, which I believe is in terrific shape. The field at Tech is one of the more competitive fields we face this fall, so it will be a great test for our team. We have not had a tournament yet this fall where each player has played their best golf so we are looking forward to that happening this time.

"The team as a whole has been working very hard to prepare for this tournament. Our practices have been focused and we plan on heading to Tech with the intention of enjoying the tournament and playing smart, so our best golf can shine through.”

The Roadrunners are coming up a runner-up showing at the Yale Intercollegiate last weekend, as senior Allie Jordan captured the three-year-old program's first-ever individual title. Jordan went out in 34 and followed with a 37 on the back nine to edge Heather Arison (Brown) and Eva Mayr (Fairleigh Dickinson) by just one stroke.

Senior Laura Baker fired a 77 and finished in a tie for 21st place, and junior Shelly Martinez was one stroke behind Baker in 29th. Junior Kayla McBride and freshman Bruna Spengle shot a 79 and 84, respectively.
