SAN ANTONIO ? The UTSA men’s and women’s cross country teams will travel to Seguin to compete in the TLU Bulldog Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 4. The women’s 6,000-meter race begins at 9 a.m., followed by the men’s 8K at 9:45 a.m.
UTSA will face teams from the University of Dallas, Huston-Tillotson, Lynchburg (men only), Schreiner, Southwestern, UT-Dallas (women only), UT-Permian Basin, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Texas A&M International, Texas A&M-Kingsville, Texas Lutheran (women only), Texas State and Trinity.
Both races will take place on the Texas Lutheran campus. The starting line and finish line are located in the large TLU intramural field next to Morck Softball Field.
The UTSA women are coming off a runner-up showing at the Islander Splash last Friday in Corpus Christi. Junior Dana Mecke remained unbeaten this season with a winning time of 17:09 in the 5k and was tabbed Southland Conference Athlete of the Week for the fourth time this year on Tuesday.
The trio of junior Corey Vargas and freshmen Layne Nixon and Michael Cook all finished in the top 15 to lead the men to a third-place showing. Nixon led all Roadrunners for the third consecutive meet with a 12th-place time of 26:02 in his first 8k of the year, while Cook and Vargas were close behind in 13th (26:15) and 14th (26:16), respectively.
