Freshman forward Taylor Padia’s game-winner in the 44th minute of play lifted the UTSAsoccer team to a 1-0 victory at North Texas innon-conference action on Sunday afternoon.

“This was a very good win for us against a really good North Texas team, which wascoming off a big win against Oklahoma.” head coachSteve Ballard said. “We played well today and had good things go our way. Thiswas a good win for our program.”

The Roadrunners (3-3) scored the lone goal of the match whenPadia received a pass from freshman defender Jodi Leroy from the top of the box to give UTSA the 1-0 lead at the 44-minute mark of the first half.



In the second half action, UNT (3-1) had three opportunitiesto tie the match, but freshman goalkeeper Nicoline Joergensen came up huge forthe Birds.

The Mean Green’s first attempt came at the 76-minute mark whenVeronica Ayala and Julie Lackey had their shots stopped by Joergensen.



North Texas would then makea final attempt to score, but Joergensen again came up with the save on BrittanyCleveland’s shot attempt with less than nine minutes to play.



Joergensen recorded her first career win and also collecteda personal-best seven saves on the day. Meanwhile, Leroy tallied her firstcollegiate assist, while Padia netted her second goal of the season.



UNT goalkeeper Mandy Hall had four saves on the afternoon,while Kelli Lunsford had a match-best five shots.



UTSA continues its five-match road trip when it heads to Waco on Sunday, Sept. 14, for a 1 p.m. matchup with Baylor.
