Roadrunners fall to Baylor, Weber State on Saturday

WACO ? UTSA saw its losing streak reach five matches with a pair of losses during Saturday's final day of the Baylor Classic. The Roadrunners (1-6) were swept by tournament host Baylor in the day's first contest and the event's final match saw Weber State hold on for a thrilling five-set victory.

Sophomore outside hitter Kendra Rowland, who averaged 3.5 kills per set over the weekend, was named to her second consecutive all-tournament team and freshman Kelsey Jewasko was tabbed the event's top libero after collecting 74 digs (4.4 ps) in the team's four contests.

The Bears (6-0) hit .284 as a team and played solid defense at the net en route to a 25-16, 25-16, 25-23 victory.

Qian Zhang led a balanced Bears offensive attack with 10 kills and setter Taylor Barnes handed out 27 assists to go along with seven winners. Anna Breyfogle led BU with six total blocks (1/5) and Briana Tolbert added five (1/4), as Baylor recorded a total of 11 in its fifth sweep of the year.

UTSA was led by Rowland, who hit .314 on the strength of a match-high 14 kills. Jewasko added 15 digs for her fifth double-digit effort this season and sophomore middle hitter Briana Mason had four block assists.

Later in the day, Weber State (5-3) jumped out to a 2-1 lead after three sets and held off a late Roadrunners' comeback for a five-set win (25-19, 14-25, 25-16, 16-25, 15-8) in the tournament finale.

Rowland had 14 more winners, while freshman Elise Huskey added 13 and hit .407. Jewasko added 20 more digs to lead four players in double figures and Mason picked up six more block assists.

The Wildcats were led by Chelsea Bair's match-high 17 kills and Caitlyn Anderson's match-best 27 digs.
