UTSA junior Dana Mecke has been named Southland Conference Women’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week for the fourth time this season, the league office announced Tuesday.
Mecke won her third individual race in as many meets this season, defeating a field of about 50 runners on Friday at the Islander Splash in Corpus Christi. The Smithson Valley product covered the 5K West Guth Park trail in a time of 17:09, finishing comfortably ahead of runner-up Anne Ronoh of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (17:24). It was the fourth career individual crown for Mecke and her victory helped UTSA finish second in the team standings behind the Islanders and ahead of Texas-Pan American, Central Arkansas, Tec de Monterrey, St. Mary’s and Texas A&M-Kingsville.
It is the fifth career weekly accolade for Mecke, who has picked up the award the week following all four weeks of competition this year.
