NEW HAVEN, Conn. ? Senior Allie Jordan shot a 71 and picked up UTSA's first-ever individual title on Sunday at the Yale Intercollegiate. The Monahans native's performance helped lead the Roadrunners, who shot a team total of 305, to a second-place showing at the rain-shortened tournament.
"I am very pleased with our second place finish and how the team had a great attitude throughout the weekend," head coach Carrie Cole said. "This course is a real test to ones individual skill. There aren't many holes that let up and as a player you have to stay patient and think your way around this course. This was a full field and our girls should feel great about a runner up finish."
Jordan went out in 34 and followed it with a 37 on the back nine to edge Heather
Arison (Brown) and Eva Mayr (Fairleigh Dickinson) by just one stroke.
"Allie played exceptionally well, hit the ballgreat and stayed clam throughout the day. She did an outstanding jobleading the team this week and got the first individual win in theprogram's history."
Senior Laura Baker fired a 77 and finished in a tie for 21stplace and junior Shelly Martinez was one stroke behind
Baker in 29th. Junior Kayla McBride and
freshman Bruna Spengle shot a 79 and 84, respectively.
The Roadrunners finished four strokes behind Harvard in the team standings.
UTSA returns to action at the Jeannie McHaney/Audrey Morehead Intercollegiate in Lubbock on Oct. 6-7.
