SAN ANTONIO ? Junior forward Halee Hamm scored her first goal of the season, but it was not enough, as TCU scored twice in the first half and held on for a 2-1 win at UTSA on Sunday afternoon.
The Horned Frogs (8-1-1) got on the board first when Lizzy Karoly netted her eighth goal of the season in the 19th minute. Jackie Torda then pushed the advantage to two at the 28-minute mark.
Hamm cut the deficit in half when she took a free kick from junior defender Celeste Carruth and sent the ball inside the far post past TCU goalkeeper Kelsey Walters.
UTSA (3-7) had an opportunity to tie the match in the 72nd minute when forward Allison Dillon got free on a breakaway, but her shot toward an empty net sailed wide.
The Roadrunners open Southland Conference play next weekend when they travel to Lamar (Oct. 3) and McNeese State (Oct. 5).
