ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. ? The UTSA men’s golf team stands in 16th place after shooting a two-round total of 622 (314-308) on Friday at the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate.
“We got off to a shaky start and couldn’t recover from it,” head coach John Knauer said. “The golf course itself was in good shape. The fairways were perfect, but the greens were hard and fast. I knew this event had some easy holes, but our guys weren’t able to take advantage of them and at this golf course you can’t do that.”
New Mexico leads the field with a 12-under 564 (277-287) and UNLV trails the Lobos by five strokes in the team standings.
The Roadrunners were led by freshman Payne Wilkie, who carded a day-one scorecard of 151 and is tied for 50th. Senior Kyle Collins sits tied for 59th and is one stroke behind Wilkie with a total of 152.
The final round will be played on Saturday morning.
