| Dana Mecke has won three SLC awards in the last four weeks. |
FRISCO ? UTSA junior Dana Mecke has been named Southland Conference Women’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week for the third time this season, the league office announced Tuesday.
Mecke remained undefeated on the season, capturing her second consecutive Ricardo Romo/Six Flags Fiesta Texas Classic title last Friday evening in San Antonio. The Smithson Valley product toured the 5k Brooks City-Base trail in a time of 17:50.3 to finish comfortably ahead of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi’s Anne Ronoh (17:58.8). Mecke now has three career individual wins and her latest victory helped the Roadrunners, competing with just five runners, finish fourth in the team standings behind Houston, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Trinity.
It is the fourth career weekly accolade for Mecke, who won the award two weeks ago following her Texas State Invitational victory and shared the honor on Sept. 2 with teammate Kayla Pratt after the duo teamed up to win the UTSA Opener.
