WACO ? The UTSA soccer team fell 3-0 at Baylor on Sunday innon-conference action at Betty Lou Mays Soccer Field.
The Bears (3-3) jumped to a 2-0 lead within the first sevenminutes of the first half on goals by Lotto Smith and Lindsey Johnson.
The Roadrunners (3-4) had two opportunities to get on the board in the firstframe, but junior Celeste Carruth’s shot soared over thecrossbar at the 14-minute mark and an EzinneOkpo shot was high midway through the stanza.
In second half action, Smith’s second goal of the match gave Baylor a 3-0 cushion at the 67-minute mark.
Meanwhile, on four separate occasions the Birds had a chanceto score, but their attempts were off the mark. Junior Veronica Najera hadtwo attempts at the 77-minute mark and the 80-minute mark,but both shots were wide.
Najera led UTSA with a pair of shots, while six differentRoadrunners had one attempt on the night.
Smith led Baylor’s offense with a match-high two goals on just four shots, while goalkeeper Gianna Quintana collected her first shutout of theseason.
UTSA concludes its five-match road trip next week as theyhead to Utah for a pair of matches at UtahStateon Thursday, Sept. 18, and at Southern Utah twodays later.
