FRISCO ? Sophomore Kendra Rowland, who helped lead UTSA to a perfect 4-0 record last week, was named Southland Conference Offensive Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday. It was the first weekly honor of her career.
Rowland had a team-leading 73 kills and hit .262 to go along with 47 digs, as UTSA defeated Georgia in four sets on Wednesday before rolling to the DePaul Invitational Championship over the weekend. The Roadrunners beat DePaul (3-1), Denver (3-2) and Ball State (3-1) to win their first preseason tournament title since the 1994 UTSA Roadrunners Classic. The Antioch, Calif., native also had eight service aces, a half dozen block assists and five helpers in 17 sets of action.
She began her week with a season-high 24 winners on 50 attacks (.380 pct) and collected a campaign-best 19 digs in the four-set win against Georgia. Rowland went on to record 49 kills (.218 pct.), five service aces and 28 digs in the squad's three contests in Chicago. She had 19 winners at DePaul, 14 vs. Denver and 16 against Ball State.
Rowland has an SLC-leading 162 kills this season, ranks second on the club with 114 digs and also has 11 aces.
UTSA is back in action on Wednesday when it hosts Texas-Pan American (3-4) in a 7 p.m. match at the Convocation Center.
