Roadrunners close out Mean Green Classic in eighth place

DENTON ?The UTSA men’s golf team turned in a final round 308 on Tuesday and finished ineighth place at the season-opening Mean Green Classic.

Senior Kyle Collins carded a finalround 76 en route to a sixth-place showing in the individual standings.



“I thought we had a good start today, but it was just one ofthose days where it rained most of the time and we couldn’t regroup.” first-year head coach JohnKnauer said. “We learned a lotthis week and are going to build upon this for the future tournaments.”



Collins ended the two-day event with a total of 217, which was seven strokes behind the leader. Freshmen Lewis Chong shot a 227 and Payne Wilkie was one stroke behind at 228. Both were competing in their first collegiate tournament.

Also in action were juniors Phillip Hui and EmilianoMartinez, who finished in 46th and 50th place, respectively.



UTSA is back in action when it heads to Albuquerque, N.M., for the William H. Tucker Invitational on Sept. 26-27.
