FRISCO ? The UTSA duo of junior Dana Mecke and freshman Kayla Pratt has been named Southland Conference Women’s Cross Country co-Athletes of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday.
The pair combined for a comfortable victory last Friday at the UTSA Opener at Olmos Park in San Antonio. Mecke and Pratt teamed up to clock a 34:02 on the 4x1,200-meter course, finishing well ahead of the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi team of Anna Ronoh and Sheila Salil (34:15).
It marked the second career weekly accolade for Mecke, who was named SLC Cross Country Athlete of the Week last October.
Molly Farrell of Sam Houston State and Amy Shackelford of Stephen F. Austin were honorable mention.
Francis Kasagule of Lamar was named SLC Men’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week.
Each school’s sports information director nominates and votes for the players of the week but is not permitted to vote for a player from his or her own school.
