Texas Tech downs UTSA, 3-0

SAN ANTONIO ? The UTSA soccer team dropped a 3-0 decision against Texas Tech in non-conference action on Sunday afternoon at the UTSA Rec Sports Complex.

The Red Raiders, who improved to 2-1 on the season, grabbed the early 1-0 lead on Taylor Lytle’s goal at the 22-minute mark of the first half. The Roadrunners (2-2) had a couple of opportunities to tie the match, but Texas Tech’s goalie, Tina Rincon, stopped freshmen Brittany Wilson’s and Taylor Padia’s shots at the 34-minute mark.

In second half action, the Red Raiders pushed their lead 2-0 on Megan Hoffert’s winner in the 62nd minute. Kendyl Mygatt then gave Texas Tech a 3-0 advantage with less than 11 minutes left in the match.

Junior Veronica Najera and sophomore Laurel Dierking recorded a team-high two shots, while senior Rachel Francis collected three saves and junior Kasi Hebert had four stops.

Rincon faced nine shots on the day and made six saves. Meanwhile, Maegan Wilber led the Texas Tech with five shots.

UTSA hits the road for its next five matches beginning at nationally-ranked Texas on Friday, Sept. 5 at Mike Myers Soccer Stadium. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
